About Us

We have always tinkered, but finally buying our own home in 2013 took that to a whole new level and our DIY-selves became fully realized. Small projects like painting and building a raised garden bed turned into a thirst for learning new ways of doing things [EVERYTHING]… “how else can we improve our lives and our home on our own”? From a full-fledged garden, to DIY home upgrades, to chickens and coops and now, even a custom trailer for our mountain adventures.

By day, Matt is a research technician and has built everything from super-computer chiller rooms to meteor-grabbing arms currently in space. Angeleen runs a concierge business in the Denver-Metro area helping people with all the various mundane tasks that seem to suck up everyone’s precious free time. When we met in 2008, we became a family of six, and made it official in 2013. We’ve been a little busy since then (ha!), but with three of our children graduated to adulthood, we have more time for our crazy ideas and that is where Mile Hi DIY was born.

Part of the joy of DIY is that you almost never have it all figured out, and so in the process of wanting to do something, you learn a bit more about it with every step of the project. Are there projects we wished we had done different? Absolutely. But what we learn from those trials and errors are priceless!

Many of our projects revolve around reuse and recycle. The majority of our projects here have been done utilizing free materials… things that other people wanted to get rid of and would otherwise end up in a landfill somewhere. Not only do we feel we’re doing something good for the Earth, but the cost-savings aren’t so bad either.

We hope you will enjoy following along with some of our projects, both past and future!
